Our initiative to bring curling to Whitchurch Stouffville is well underway. A committee has been formed with members from the community. The committee has members specialized in developing membership drives, building and facilities design, business planning, site planning, marketing and fund raising. If you were at the Strawberry Festival, you may have seen our booth on Park Drive with a large sign that said "Help Bring Curling to Town". We had well over 200 people sign their names in support of building a curling facility in our town. Of special note, we had a junior curling coach approach us to help in developing our junior program. We also had a local resident inform us that he had an original Stouffville Curling Club rock at his house. We look forward to possibly throwing that rock during our opening ceremonies! Local resident, 1998 Olympic Silver Medalist in Curling, and CBC Sports Curling Commentator Mike Harris stopped by in the afternoon to meet local residents and show his support for the facility.
In the coming weeks, you will see registration forms show up in local businesses and at community events. If you would like to see curling come to our Town, please fill out the form and we will collect them. For more information, please visit our list of FAQs. Please visit How You Can Help to submit your support for the facility.
If you have an interest in helping the committee, please visit Contact Us and drop us a note and we will get back to you.
A committee has been formed. But there is always room for more. If you have something to bring to the committee and are interested in participating, please use the Contact Us page with your request and we will get in touch with you.
An initial feasibility study has been done. In order to be successful, the committee needs to hear from at least 200 people that would be interested in being members of a curling facility. We will be running articles in the local Sun-Tribune paper and we will have a booth on Main Street during the Strawberry Festival.
Look for us at the Strawberry Festival, meet Olympic Silver Medalist and CBC Curling commentator Mike Harris at our booth and purchase your Whitchurch Stouffville Curling button to show your support.
